Quantitative evaluation of different aspects of motion trackers under various challenges

When a motion tracking system underperforms, researchers and practitioners face the challenge of modifying and improving it. This paper proposes a framework of a rich set of metrics for quantitative evaluation that is able to indicate which modules of such a complicated system needs adjustment. We also use six different video sequences that represent a variety of challenges to assess the system performance under different conditions. We illustrate the practical value of the proposed metrics by evaluating and comparing two motion tracking algorithms.
